...heads are easier to rebuild as they are OHV not OHC.
The rest is pretty basic BUT you need to pay attention to the details. These engines work in the 3000RPM range for hours. You cannot cut corners or you will be stuck out in the middle of the drink for a long time.
Buy a quality rebuild kit, but only AFTER you open up the engine and see what is wrong.
If it was indoors I would say try to turn it over, but I think you will ruin it if you try that with an out door engine.
You may need to have the crank professionaly machined to get rid of rust damage on teh surfaces that meet the bearings. If so, you will need special thicker bearing surfaces to make up for the difference.
The cylinders may need to be bored to get rid of rust damage. That means you might need new cylinders OR wider rings.
