OK, so I walked the talk and became a member of this great site. I'll resubmit questions to fellow members!
Well, I just got my black "88 SPG from Arizona from the transporter ("hey Joe" if you see this) and I'm trolling for some info on the configuration. I've had an Edwardian Gray '88 SPG for the last 12 years that has a cluster of three gages below the Clarion equilizer. Oil pressure, volt meter, and outside temperature. The "new" black SPG has no gauges there...but NO rust anywhere (ask me what MN Winters do to an auto body...not to mention a human body) and only 124,000 miles. Of course I tried to resist, but already some cosmetic parts have been going from the grey to the black beauty. So, I'm seriously considering transferring the gauges over to the black SPG. I don't think there is a harness on the AZ black one to plug into (though I need to do a more thorough check).
Question one: are the gauges standard? And thus missing? Or was this an option?
Question two: does anybody know of any good indies in the NE Minneapolis area?? Related question: anybody ever switched out a lower gauge cluster on their own?
The AZ black SPG is definitely worth a restoration. Not even a speck of rust at the bottom of the doors...sorry guys, couldn't resist, mere enthusiasm getting the best of me. I've done most of the mechanical work (exception would be transmission) on the Grey one over the years, but I think I need a reliable indie for this baby.
Thank you in advance folks. The AZ guy I bought the Saab from re-turned-me-on to this site...and I forgot how fantastic it was. Thanks to a FAQ I got the high idle down and the rough cold-start fixed (almost).
