Master Cylinder seal orientation? Posted by CBS [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Well, when I finally got the second master cylinder piston to shoot out of the cylinder, it kind of exploded into its various peices. I know I have the new seals on the first piston oriented correctly -- they angle towards the back of the cylinder. The second piston (meaning the second piston to come out of the cylinder) has the first seal angling the opposite direction -- towards the cylinder opening.
And finally the last seal on the second piston angles the opposite direction from the first seal on the second piston -- towards the back of the cylinder. I only installed this seal this way because this seems to be the way it wanted to fit together relative to the spring. But on second thought, this does not seem right...I would think both seal flanges should be oriented the same direction?
Does anybody out there have an old master cylinder (mine is from a 1988) laying around that they can check for seal orientation? Or maybe a schematic that shows the correct orientation?? Any help, or thoughts (you can tell me what a dumba*s I am for not "keeping it together"), are welcome. I have the Bently and Haynes books and neither show this!
