Over a year ago I bought a 1992 900Tc in Platana Grey - my favorite color. It had a catastrophically failed transmission and some body damage on the RR in front of the wheel, bad paint on the hood, and more or less trashed upholstery. It was cheap enough and had a brand new canvas top and, like I said, my favorite color, so I bought it.

I had a spare 5-speed from a 1992 900 w/ 88k on it, and (apparently hastily) rebuilt the drivetrain including a 2.1l head freshly rebuilt with a 3-angle valve job. I had dreams of adding this car permanently to the fleet, but after owning the car for the year I've pretty clearly seen the error of my plan... the best laid schemes and whatnot. The transmission has a bad 2nd gear synchro, and there is low compression in at least one cylinder, both axles need to be replaced, and there is still body damage and crappy seats.

When summer is done, I am going to be done with this car. It's been a curse since Day 1 with all sorts of little annoying things and I've spent so much time & energy on those things I haven't dealt with the real problems, and truth is I've become so annoyed with the car I don't think I could muster another couple grand to fix the cosmetics. I've considered selling the car as-is, but I really don't think it's worth even $1000 as is, as I've got more than that into year old parts...

Truthfully, the only reason I've held onto it this long is because the top is perfect and flawless. When the time comes to dismantle it, is there any useful way of removing it from the car and keeping it for a future need? I can remove the whole frame if that's useful (and not too painful - my frustration tolerance is low on this one... ;)

Thanks!
