Please look through my member gallery for photos of my '92 S before and after I got rid of the (worhtless) bypass valve. You can replace that one yourself in around an hour (half that if you've done this type of thing yourself before). Don't forget to open the bleeder screw when you refill the coolant.
You may want to take the time to ensure it's the bypass valve that is leaking, not a cracked firewall connection to the heater control valve.
It sounds to me like either your garage is unwilling to extend whatever parts discount they get from Saab to you or they don't know where to get parts for a Saab. Saab also has started the policy of "let's jack up the prices for old car parts and not stock most of them so they get the idea that they should just throw away a decent car and buy a new one" within the past few years. It's a fun snowball. First the former customers stop buying things from them because instead of $45 for a ball joint it now costs over $80, so the parts don't move as quickly so they stop stocking them. I'd hate to imagine what would happen to a huge percentage of C900s if the two main parts sellers (and site sponsors here on TSN) were to stop stocking our parts. They make enough money off of me to stay in business for years.
