That's neat scenario! I've never actually compared, but was under the impression the -90 style connector was physically very different from the 91+ style. I can compare my 90 SPG against my 92 900Tc later on.
AFAIK, Saab is the only way to get those wiring diagrams. I am going through the same thing as I try to put a 1986 900T fusebox into my 1980 900T - the only place I got the diagram was the factory electrical manual.
I am NOT sure whether they continued those wiring diagrams after the early '80s however... neither of my 9000 factory books have such info - they all have the Bentley-style simplified diagrams.
How can you tell the wiring harness is from a '90? Just curious what the visual cues were...
