There is no fuel rail on an 8v car - just the fuel distributor on the air filter housing.
Have you tried pulling the plugs out to let them dry? You may have leaky injectors that are soaking the plugs over night making it difficult/impossible to start. Pull the plugs out overnight and dry them out.
While they're drying, pull out the injectors and put them each in their own mason jar and crank the engine for about 30 seconds. It helps if someone can observe while you do this to verify you're getting a good spray pattern from each injector. If you're stuck by yourself and can't observe the spray, at least be sure each mason jar has about the same level of fuel after the 30 seconds of cranking.
If you've verified each injector has strong spray, you may want to test for injector leaks. Pull the injectors out of the jars and lay them each on their own dry paper towel. If you come back the next morning and the towel is wet, you have leaky injectors. That may or may not be the source of the no-start, but it's a step in the right direction.
Be sure you've got strong spark in each cylinder. You can try a quick test with an inductive timing light - see if it strobes reliably on each spark plug lead. Test as close to the plug as you can.
A stutter on starting fluid sounds like a fueling issue more than an ignition issue... Even though the plugs are wet, you may have too much or too little or poorly atomized fuel preventing a start.
