DUH, I got my fuel sender problem under control.
Neither the old/new one or the old used sender unit that I got from eBay were faulty.
After I checked the inside of the dash, if the back nuts have gotten loose (no ground on the
back foil of instrument cluster) and short wiring the fuel sender wires ( the dash gauge went all the way up and the empty tank light flashed > Ground was available) I found the solution: Both sender were not 'unlocked'. The new one was sort of 'half unlocked' the eBay one was fully locked. So, if you have a sender unit with metal housing, it has a self locking mechanism. Hold the metal tube part and push the top down and pull the bottom (strainer part) out. Do not use to much force!
You will notice that the bottom part slides out of the metal tube about 0.5cm and the top part pushes in about the same amount. Now the fuel sender unit is in operation mode. If the bottom part is fully pushed in (all you see is a 4mm rim between strainer and metal tube) the internal mechanism is blocked and you will get a empty reading on the dash gauge.
