I used a bushing that was slightly larger in diameter than the diameter of the input shaft. I mated a grade 8 bolt with a thrust bearing washer on the bolt -- this helped take away the friction if it is really stuck. Then holding the OD of the bushing and turning the bolt that engages into the shaft, it should just pull it straight out. I had to clean out the shaft threads, and lubed the bolt. Once it pulls it out an 1/8th inch or so, it should just slide out of the housing. Very similar to a steering wheel puller in operation.
