SPG speedo problems

I had broken speedo cable which I was unable to change due to 1cm long piece of cable which was stacked in back side of speedo. Yesterday I removed instrument panel and removed broken piece.
When I put everything back together speedo started to act very strange. When cable is put on the speedo to the end and fixed as it should be, driving forward the needle goes immediately to the max speed mark and stacks there even if car stands still. Driving in reverse needle goes back to 0.
I pulled cable a bit off from the back of speedo and now it is not in the place where it suppose to be but at-least shows speed which is +15 km/h than it really is and the needle is "jumping".
Any idea how to fix this? I suppose that cable is still to long and need to be cut although a week ago on this board it was suggested no to cut it.
I am fighting with this problem already for a month and desperately need help.
Thanks.
PS. Perhaps the car is angry to me as I am planing to sell it very soon.
