I just did two MC jobs within a week of each other. I am no master mechanic, so I will state that it is not a very difficult or expensive job. Funny, I had a MC seal kit for my "old" '88 SPG, but ebayed a brand new OEM MC from a guy in Puerto Rico, so just replaced that ($79), and then decided to throw away the seal kit ($20). So, a month after that, I found a rust-free '88 SPG that I had to have. Yup, it needed a MC seal kit...like the one I just threw away. So, another $20 to eEuroparts, and the brakes are now very solid on both Saabs.
The main point being, I had the same symptoms as you on two similar vehicles and both were MC seals gone bad. The bonus to a MC seal kit job, is of course, that you get to bleed all four wheels and get new DOT 4 fluid at the same time. Note: I thought I screwed something up after the seals and the bleed was done...still soft. I just had to rebleed the left rear wheel...surprised at the amount of air that came out (probably a residual pocket in the MC) on the second bleed. Good luck.
