sunroof fabric alternative ???

86 900s. I am in the middle of my second headliner replacement and this time I gotta deal with the sunroof's worn out sagging fabric and shot mounting plastic "J" strips with the sown-in fabric. I had skipped that project the last go around.
Given that the sunroof's plastic end pieces are already broken off in the corners and cracked at the front screw holes, I was just wondering if anyone had just scrapped the fabric( and the sowing job)and glued up a thin vinyl panel (and ream out a hole for the latch mechanism).
I am looking for a thin sheet of vinyl with light texture and color coordinated to match the ligh grey foam backed headliner. Something like the raw stock that is slit and used to make vertical blinds.
Seems to me that gluing up a panel of vinyl would avoid all the problems of the fabric (fabric stretching, lateral dirt on the fabric and tearing - and I don't have the patience sow!)
Any ideas where this dimension of material could be obtained.
