Airplane noice from front end Posted by Arabiflora [Email] (#1129) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Arabiflora) on Mon, 10 Sep 2007 22:27:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I recently replaced all major clutch assembly components in my '88 900 NA. The motivating factor was an increasingly frequent squeal on clutch engagement that I attributed to a bad throwout bearing, but given the age of all original components (372k mi) I figured that in for a penny, in for a pound...
The repair was successful insofar as it stopped the squealing on lower gear shifts, but now I have a new problem and I'm not sure if it's related. I have a new noise that is MPH, not engine RPM, correlated. It becomes noticeable at about 30 mph and increases in tenor and intensity as speeds advance. It seems to emanate from front left (but mosly front).
I first suspected a tire problem, but can't see any obvious problems with rubber, bearing, or suspension; nor do I have any vibration or steering wheel shake that would be consistent with same.
Bottom line: I've got noise, but not (now) much of a problem. Still, where might the noise be coming from? Could it be related to the clutch R$R?
