You forgot the shape of the windshield, the best defroster on the planet, the hood that opens the right way, still above average occupant protection today (brilliant when it was new), engine noise (timing and primary chains, not belts!) straight out of a spaceship, some of the most comfortable long-distance seats ever, separate dash and instrument light dimmers, standard seat heaters, an interior that's simple and elegant and well-built all at once, brilliance in exterior and interior lighting (pun intended... ever driven somewhere in zero visibility in your '85 with the inboard parking lights, fogs if you've got 'em, flashers and one cornering light latched on?), doors that have a metallic CHUNK latching noise instead of today's rubbery thwomp, an aerodynamic shape that not only saves energy and goes faster but is quieter to boot, 110 or 128 or 140 or 160 or 165 or 175 or 185 horsepower (stock) and over 30 MPG...
The subject is a King Missile quote.
Why are twin A-arms unusual? Just look at them. Elegant, overbuilt simplicity! My friend's father was amazed to find a tubular rear axle under his sister's car (which would become my '92 SC) and the bushings haven't died yet.
If you get north of Albany, swing by and we can Saab-nob. Otherwise, I'm the one in the '88 4-door or '92 SC beeping and waving and mouthing something like "nice eighty-five!" because my family's first 900 was that year and I can spot them from a great distance.
To put it on par, I drove somebody else's niner-three (OG) 2.3t a few months ago. The shift linkage still wasn't right, just about the same (at 65k) as my convertible (at 130k) and the handling was not right. It was about as rubbery as my convertible and nowhere near as robust. Plus, I can work on my convertible. The chassis makes the car, apparently, and using an off-the-shelf Vauxhall stamping was not the greatest idea.
What's torque steer?
