That Advance Auto story is (Painfully) funny. Bench testing is the gold standard for alternator diagnosis but you gotta have a tech. that knows how to do it. Like I said in an earlier post on this topic, it's usually a wiring fault. (But not always the wire you suspect). The bearings in those alternators are common motor bearings, easily obtainable, cheap and easy to replace. I haven't done one in a while (although I'll be doing one this week) and I don't recall the size/ID but they are 6200 or 6202 or something equally common. If you are near a WW Grainger they sell them over the counter or through their web site. Glad your problem is solved. Cheers
