Very recently I bought a quite nice '91 c900 16V non turbo, about 93K miles, absolutely zero rust (central FL car), very clean engine, to replace my '86 non-turbo, 155K mi, rusted but still zippy and fun to drive (it's up now on the SAAB classifieds board, from 8 Aug). The '91 seems to have considerably more power, but the fuel mileage is kind of crappy: I'd guess around 18 mpg/city. This compares to about 22 mpg/city on the old '86, 25 mpg/highway (both are 5 speed manual tranny). The '91 starts fine though it idles a big rough, somewhat lopy, but doesn't stall, hesitate or stutter. No obvious leaks or breaks or disconnects in any of the vacuum lines but the bushing where that larger diameter hose that into the valve cover may be a bit slack. Seller (second owner) said he changed all the filters 3k miles ago. I haven't looked at the plugs.

Also, compared to the '86, where the outside temp has to be radically hot for the electric fan to come on at shut down, the '91's electric fan comes on after shut down even from driving slowly around town for a quarter hour on a cool day. The '91 temp gauge seems to work fine and the indicated engine temp never goes more than halfway up the scale, and on opening the hood, egine seems to running at normal temp. I also noticed that the coolant air bleed valve didn't seem to want to vent fluid so readily. The seller drove 150 miles on a hot day to deliver the '91 so I don't think there's any serious cooling prob's with radiator or thermostat, but I don't expect the electric fan to come on as readily as it does.

Also, I just replaced that plastic bushing at the top of the '91's steering column that commonly fails with the correct $5 SAAB part, following instructions from this board on how to diasarm the air bag, not trash the airbag winder, etc. (The extreme steering wheel freeplay really sucked before!)

Thanks, all of you out there on how to do this, everything seemed to work and the SRS light comes on at startup only for a few secs and then goes off, like it should

But I realized when I got it all back together that I must not have centered the front wheels when I put the steering wheel back onto the splines, since the steering wheel is now is rotated about 20 degrees (or 2 o'clock) when I'm driving straight, and my view of the instrument cluster is obscured by the steering wheel spokes.

Without having to mess with removing and resetting that tricky airbag winder again, how do I realign and re-engage that plastic pin that extends from the upper face of the winder housing into the hole in the steering wheel itself, and re-set the steering wheel on the shaft splines so that when driving straight, the steering wheel is correctly positioned horizontally?
