I try to leave the back seat on whenever possible...one time it was off to diagnose a stereo problem and I ended up frying other fuses for some reason. From a general standpoint, you don't need to disconnect the battery to replace fuses, but definitely take out the key and it doesn't hurt to disconnect the neg terminal. Check all fuses (hood and rear) to see what might have gone down.
