Have you "read" the plugs after using a set of new ones properly gapped? I say this because this was what lead me to suspect, and eventually find, an air leak. The boot from the turbo to the metal pipe to the Intercooler had a crack in it, on the underside of course. I was running lean, lots of power but eratic idle, liked throttle on and off more than staying at a constant pedal position, had lots of power but the plugs showed running lean. Just a thought to check before you pull the VC off.
