My 1984 900 (only 65,000miles) with automatic transmission was working great when a tire blew with my son driving. It ended in the ditch resting on the transmission. The Al skidbars sacrificed themselves, but were not enough to protect the pan. Two screws holding the pan ripped out or sheared off and the pan rolled up leaking fluid all over. Okay, I patched the transmission casting, EZ-Outted the bolt, straightened the bent plumbing in the tranny, ordered a new pan, filter and skid plate. The whole thing went back together with minimal trouble. Now, though, the transmission is doing everything poorly sometimes. It slips in 3rd, won't shift from 2nd to 3rd without taking your foot off the gas, it is slow to engage 1st. Things may get a little better when it warms up. The one thing the car does consistently is that when you turn a corner at a residential intersection (without having the stop sign) the car slips into neutral until the wheels are going straight again. My independent Saab guy tightened the bands and inspected the cables. He didn't find a cause and recommended a new transmission if I can find a good one.
My questions now are: 1)What could a blow to the pan do to make a previously good transmission slip and miss shifts. 2)Could a small kink in one pipe cause this range of troubles? 3)What does having the wheels turn at different speeds as you go around a corner make the tranny go to neutral until the car is going straight again (unless accelerating from a stop)? 4)Does any one have a bad automatic apart that can send me the pipe that goes closest to the ATF filter?
Any help or insight will be appreciated.
