I know exactly what you're saying here. I've never been at all impressed with the newer, post C900 generation of Saabs. I always thought that they were a retrograde step (and this is just my opinion). I think that the quirky, function-first character was lost. Although lots of non-Saab people never liked the look of the C900 I personally think that their lines are sensational.
I've just gotten back into my '85 Aero after a 5 year sabbatical and instantly recall why I loved it in the first place. The smell of it - the old leather and carpet, and the way it SOUNDS and GOES... I just love it. It's more of a visceral experience - except the term "visceral" (characterized by or proceeding from instinct rather than intellect) is wrong in that the C900 is borne of instinct guided by a good dose of intellect.
Maybe the someone in India might think about re-building them some day. They're already building new VW Beatles and old CJ Jeeps all over again for a burgeoning retro market. Maybe if their quality was up to par I'd consider a new Classic 900.... and then again, maybe not :(
Cheers
Chris
