fuel mileage part II

In an earlier post I questioned how where I get 20-24 mpg others seem to get 28-30 mpg. I was wondering if the O2 sensor might be off, calibrating wrong and sending the wrong info.
93 2.1 non turbo
OK. I thought if the O2 thing is off, and with fuel consumption higher than it ought to be, the plugs ought to show this. So I pulled them. Beautiful.
BUT they were Boshe Supers set at 35 thou. Nothing wrong with Bosche Supers. But I put a set of NGKs in there, set at 25-30 (30 would not go, 25 would on my gage)
Then I popped the dist cap. The rotor contact was pretty nasty. Not having a spare, i hit it with abrasive cloth. Then the contacts on the cap.
Stuck it back together. Seems to have improved power a lot and maybe mileage. If the gage is accurate (and I don't think it is) I'm close on to 30 mpg with better power from 2000 rpm up.
Will post further info after refuel.
