On mine the clear plastic has turned actually red at the bottom edge, yellow in middle, totally matte surface. Where strip was pulled hard to remove it, the plastic has cracked through.
It reveals a beautiful strip of very light gauge actual metal, possibly stainless steel but more likely polished aluminum.
But the plastic strip is heavy gage and is part of the structure of the trim strip. Seems to puull out at bottom edge but at top it's embedded into the black rubber. Maybe if you took a razor knife along the top edge and slit it clean thru the rest would pull off revealing the metal. Then the metal had also a light piece of plastic coming part way up, that was matte too and would need pulling or slitting away.
Might visit a junkyard first to perfect your technique.
If metal then goes flat, there is peel and stick trim available at auto parts places etc. that probably would give a good enough look and could fit in that groove and bond to existing metal trim.
