I'm not quite sure from your post, but i assume that you have hydraulic mounts all around (left and right sides and the front). This would be the correct setup for your year of car . . . unless (perhaps) the transmission has been replaced with an earlier unit that would mean the mount is a solid one. When you say "rubber style" that makes me think you have an older solid mount . . .
So . . . IF they are all hydraulic then and IF it is the passenger side mount that you need to replace. . . then I would do the following:
1.Loosen the front mount. This involves undoing the two bolts that hold the mount in place.
2. Unbolt the passenger side mount. This involves undoing all three bolts (two smaller bolts and the one bigger one in the centre)
3. Jack up the engine/transmission by carefully lifting under the transmission. I can usually catch the engine oil filler area with the side of my jack. Use a piece of wood between the jack and the transmission casing for protection.
4.Lift just far enough to get the passenger side mount out.
I have never had to detach the shift rod or experienced any damage caused by lifting the engine the 2-3 inches necessary to get the mount out.
