They seem to fail after 10 or 15 years.
You can check the connections on the sender but chances are you'll have to replace the sender. Maybe $80-110 for the VDO part. Still available.
Relatively easy to replace...I used a BF channel lock pliers opened to fit the tangs on the locking ring and a pry bar between the jaws of the pliers to twist the pliers and the ring. When mine came out there were stray pieces of it scattered about the bottom of the tank...I carefully fished them out with a grabber.
Careful...you're dealing with an open container of gasoline when you pull the sender out.
The sender and fuel pump are both accessed by removing the floor panel between the back seat and the rearmost floor panel (the one that flops up to get to the spare tire). This intermediate panel should slide straight back and out once you pull the rearmost panel off (release the rubber clips with the rear panel up, remove the rear panel).
The sender is the smaller of the two covers...remove the cover and if there's a fuel line to it it's the wrong one!!! Disconnect the two electrical connectors and then take off the locking ring and replace the sender.
