Since it new , I wouldn't worry about cleaning it. It take awhile for distributor to get dirty and have the oiled parts dry out. I'm talking 15-20 years of old! Especially the old air-cooled. They tend to run very hot and heat soak when the engines turn off. What happens when the advancement weight start to get sticky, is they don't advance until the RPM get high and then they don't return smoothly so that the ignition timing jump all over the place and the performance suffers greatly and the idle is usually high. It make's it hard to get the timing correct. Octane is what make's the fuel burn a certian rate and with-out proper advancement the power and economy SUCKS!
