Hey - here's the question... did the 88 seat you're putting in come from a passive belt car (ie motorized mouse belts)? If so, the seat is actually a different seat. You can swap a cover over but it won't fit quite right. Also take the foam from the 88 seat if available... it'll work and go onto your seat frame but it just might not be a perfect fit. Not just on the center seams but also on the front/back edges of the seat.
A shop can easily resew those rods in by the way... it has a name, I can't recall what it's called but they'll probably use a synthetic thread and fiber that won't decay. Much better. I've done this.
You can replace the breaks in the seat heater element... just patience and soldering... Getting one from a junker is probably a waste of time, they're all broken by now I'm sure if a car's in the junker. New pad from saab is about 100 bucks. But your idea about the pass seat maybe having less wear is a good one...give it a shot. Just make sure, I can't recall -- does the 86 SPG have a seat heater switch on the dash ? (with positions 1-2-3)? If so, you cannot put in a pass seat heater element as is because those are operated automatically via temp/thermostat embedded in teh seat.
Armrests are tough... HUSCO makes one that State of Nine carries... I don't love it personally. I put one on my 90 SPG a few months back... do a search here for pics, I put some info up.
