OK, drove the '90 SPG up to Starbucks today. Runs fine as usual with the -570 ECU. So I get my NOID test light and plug it into one of the injector connectors. I start the car and as it is cranking I see the flashing light. Normal. Car starts and runs on 3 cylinders because NOID light is plugged in so one injector is disconnected.
So I plug in the -948 ECU and as soon as I turn the key, the NOID light lights up VERY bright (without the engine even cranking! And doesn't seem to flicker when the engine is cranking, it just stays bright. I start the car and it runs for a short time on the -948 ECU but it is running extremely rich and at a faster idle. I can smell the raw gas. This is consistent with the NOID light being very bright. From its brightness I would guess that I have high voltage and a long duration of injector open time.
With the NOID light unplugged and the injector plugged back in I cannot even get the car to start, Too much gas, I'm guessing.
So the problem with the -948 ECU is that it seems to open the injectors wide open all the time, not just when the engine is turning.
