8 valves never had a crank position sensor; those are only found on 1991 and later 16 valve motors.
Since you say you have good spark, I'm assuming the hall sensor in the distributor is okay, the pulse relay is working, the ignition amplifier is sound, and the coil is strong.
Since you say you have a good spray pattern, I'm assuming the fuel pumps, regulator, distributor and injectors are okay. How about the airflow plate? If you pull up on it, does it rise freely? Sometimes this plate will get stuck down and refuse to let any fuel into the cylinders, despite manually activating for your fuel spray test. Gunk and varnish on the fuel distributor needle can cause this, as can sticky goo around the plate and venturi seat. An idle regulator valve that's stuck shut and full of gunk would run the engine, but only around 300 RPM at idle and quickly die, but the gas pedal should keep that alive.
What's the weather like where you are? An iced up fuel line would not be found in a situation where you have fuel, so I'm guessing that's okay.
The only other plausible solution I can think of would be a detatched timing chain, but that would make the top of the motor stop spinning, no hall signal, and then no spark.
Is your spark dark blue, or is it a mellow orange? Weak spark would be an ignition amplifier, hall sensor, or pulse relay issue.
What kind of plugs are in there, how do your cap and rotor look, and have the engine wiring harnesses been repaired or replaced? How about all your fuses?
AHA! Check your engine grounds. The battery negative cable attaches to the side of the transmission case. This is an important one, as is the shared ground on the crossmember near the radiator, passenger's side below the headlight.
My only guess now is to clean off the plugs, crank away and floor it.
