Dan- If you decide to pull the lifters, you can invert them in oil and pump the spring valve to purge oil into them. The car will still work fine if you mix up the lifter, but original location is the best practice as you have done. Do check your oil pressure. If you didn't rotate the engine by hand to re-check you timing alignment when the new chain was installed, I would check it again. All in all you just might need to run the engine a bit longer to see if the sound will be gone. A mechanics stethoscope would be nice to have. You can really hone in on the noise. There was a couple of postings on the oil pressure valve to the oil pump. Could this be jambed?
