I have NEVER had instant success using the Mity Vac on the bleeder screw as a vacuum. It starts pulling in air from around the threads. However, put the plastic tube on the pressure side, and pump the air into the master cylinder and it works like a charm. You can get the same effect with a bicycle pump.
As for a cap fot the master cylinder, you can make your own. Unfortunately, I get a lot of prescription medicine through mail order. Fortunately, the caps from their generic mail-order prescriptions fit right on to the master cylinder (maybe even a large Rolaids cap will work.
Remove the outer "child protection" cap, drill a hole in the middle, and get an old inner tube from a local tire place, cut out the air valve with enough rubber to act as a gasket for the lip of the master cylinder.
