I used 3/8" with 2 hose clamps at each end. You really can't cut off the hose flanges without removing the oil cooler and also the oil filter housing. The cooler takes some work as there are a lot of fasteners, some hidden, and I took off my front bumper too. I don't know if the bumper removal was 100% necessary, though.
Don't forget to get a new oil filter housing, new oil pressure sender & washer (optional), and 8 new hose clamps. For hose clamps, don't get the ones at the hardware store that have the grooves cut out for the worm gear because the grooves will cut into the hose when you tighten them. I found mine needed to be tightened pretty hard, at least the ones on the oil cooler fittings. Get the OEM style that will protect the hose.
I used transmission cooler hosing from a place on the internet called autobarn. I have a lot left if you're interested.
