Hi Peter!
I did this on my '90. It's not too bad, as long as you don't rush thru it. I actually thought replacing the front shocks was more of a PITA than doing the front springs.
Yes, it can be dangerous if you're not careful & paying attention. But then, a coworker had his truck fall on his arm when he was messing with his rear suspension & wasn't taking the proper safety steps. It's kind of a tedious job to compress the front springs, so it's easy to want to take short cuts. Don't get impatient & you'll be fine.
Of course, $150 isn't too bad to let someone else take the risk....
