8 valve, CISm non-Turbo, 4 door, CDN specs base model
Lately I have been having a warm start problem typical of leaking injectors - occurs ONLY when car has been warmed up, shut off and then restarted after more than 30 minutes (so csv is taken out of loop). Car will ALWAYS eventually start even if it takes hard cranking.
Mechanic who is dedicated Saab specialist removed leaking accumulator about two years ago and says problem is unrelated to that (I trust and believe what he says - Scandanavian Auto in Ontario). MPG has improved with new sensor, and plugs were tan not black when last checked.
I have also replaced the check valve at the pump thinking a leak is somewhere downstream of pump in the system (is it possible for a leak to appear between the injector and the pump eg the fuel distributor?).
Mechanic's advice is to simply open up the throttle half way when warm. That actually works but seems to go against conventional wisdom for starting fuel injection. Problem appeared only in the last year or so. Am inclined to not accept loss of accumulator as source of problem but am open to conjecture on this.
I know CIS has its quirks but will say it has been the least troublesome fuel delivery system that I have seen in any foreign or domestic vehicle that I have owned. By way of contrast I have replaced all the injectors, afm and brain, in the L Jetronic Westy setup and consider the later LH and L systems to be much more difficult to diagnose and repair.
thanks
