but theres a lot of work involved and even then the problem could be else where,
there might be an easy way to go about this but i never tried it, so let me give you a visual.
on the right side (fuel, temp gauge side) behind the the instrument cluster panel there is a wire harness running into the back of the panel.
to be more precise of the area: its plugged into the back edge (not side)
of the panel. the plug is about two inches long and a little under a half a inch thick. this plug runs the hole edge of the panel.
with it unplugged it will definitely kill the gauges:
now to avoid the troublesome uninstallation and reinstallation of the dash try this first.
there is no guarantee this will work seeing i don't think anyone can reach this plug this way but worth a shot.
remove the driver side speaker grill and speaker.
with your hand go in through the speaker hole trying to get to this plug.
if you cant reach it be very careful and feel the cluster of wires running to the plug there will be about 24 all running in this general direction.
with the ignition on grab hold of a few wires and slightly wiggle them (might need to be a little more aggressive depending on the interpretation of the word slightly) while looking at the fuel gauge if you see it bounce or start working the plug needs to be attended to & removal of the dash needs to be done.
i found my plug to have black chard marks in the back side pf the panel on various contact points, and the metal tabs need to be re-bent closer together in the plug.
if the wires have been wiggled and you did not witness any movement of the fuel gauge i wouldn't rip out the dash seeing this plug is so rare on becoming faulty.
note to fill the gas tank before this
