It is so many theories of what came first on those B205/235 engine from 99 and up, the sludge or the heat from cat or a bad oil or the long change interval or the low friction piston rings or the PCV system or the pickup screen mesh or the????
But one thing is for sure, if the oil pickup screen would have looked like the one used in the pre 94 900 engine. It is no way that any sludge or coffee grounds would be trapped in the screen since the holes are quite large on those.
And if no coffee grounds are trapped in the screen, you won't get oil starvation and oil pressure problems and oil over heating problems.
It seems that as technology goes forward, over engineering is rampant and old proven technologies thrown by the wayside.
This is an pickup screen on a 4 year old 9-3 with 16K miles total on the odometer.
