I just bought my second auto trans. Saab just last month. Its a two door 92/900 turbo and was well taking care of. It have a oil change sticker on the windshield and was 230. mile shy of an oil change $1,000.00 Dollars with a completely new exhaust and cat.. My 91/900s also has the three speed auto in it and the car has 168.000 miles on it. I presently have four Saabs on the road and the first thing I do when they make-it home is, Flush the type "F" Auto transmission fluid and add one bottle of "Lucas" brand trans. conditioner to the auto. box. A complete tune-up with an oil change. On the auto. box there's three different oil types in it. Automatic type "F", 10/30w oil in the gear box and final drive is 80/90w. Don't use any "Lucas >gear< lube in the gear or final drive area. Familiarize yourself with the different drain plugs. Flush the brake fluid, Power steering fluid and then add "Lucas" power steering conditioner. Renew the antifreeze coolant and add 1/2 bottle of "Barsleak" .Check all rubber mount and renew as needed. I find with any car, if you treat it with care it should last awhile. With the automatic transmission, you just have to be a little more caring. CHANGE the fluids o a schedule plan. Most times I read of the auto box not being that great but, mine have been ticking of the miles with proper maintenance and mindful driving. If you son take care of the car and realizes that its just a four speed auto, I think you'll be surpise as to how many miles you can get out of the car. THINK FOUR SPEED AUTO! The best of luck with this new member of the familly, If you buy.
