You're not describing either a stuck lifter or the normal clicking of the injectors. How does it boost? This sounds most like a description of engine pinging but more information is really needed. Pinging is directly related to load. Correct engine ignition timing is a major factor as is fuel octane. The condition of the ignition components in general is a concern as well. Since this is a noise and not a vibration it's not likely to be a bad inner driver (they vibrate under load). Check the condition of the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor and replace anything that's crusty, damaged or old. In the dark you can mist the coil lead and plug wires with water and if one or more is defective and arcing to ground it will be really evident. Only use NGK plugs if you want proper performance and set the gap and ignition timing as specified on the tag on the left inner fender (in the small print). Your car has APC and a knock sensor which will reduce the boost if it senses any engine noise so it's worth asking if you ever hear the noise while boosting near the red mark. If so then either it's not an engine noise or your knock sensor is disabled. Good luck
