Maybe someone else could jack it up and tell you what you need. If nothing has been done for a long time regarding suspension, it could be multiple things. Or it could be a tool in the spare tire well.
Good stiff shocks in the rear are a good upgrade. Bad shocks cause wallowing or unpredictable handling, and too much of that in the rear affection the directional stability of the car. Taken to a sporting extreme, new stiff shocks and springs would reduce understear to the point that you could induce oversteer predictably and on demand with a swedish flick.
Springs do sag after a while, but probably wouldn't make knock noises, it would just contribute to ride height and load carrying deficiencies.
