I'm looking at purchasing a 1988 Saab 900 turbo convertible. It's a black and tan model (looks really good) with 150k miles, but hasn't been registered since 2005. I was told it was taken off the road because of a frozen ignition. I searched the board for information on this subject and found a lot of good info.

I guess my question for the board would be whether it is sound to risk $250 to $500 for the Saab? They're asking $500, but appear to be willing to negotiate. The dashboard is cracked and it needs a wash, but otherwise the interior and exterior are in good condition. I have no info on the mechanics other than the ignition.

Anyway, I don't need another Saab, but if $250 to $500 doesn't sound absurd for an older 900, I might make this a spring/summer project. Let me know your thoughts.
