Depending on their current condition and what your trying get get to. Here's what I did. Mine were in good condition to begin with but the clear coat was peeing and the gray powder coat was wearing in a few spots. (Silvervanes). I suppose if the lips, which should be polished, are badly pitted, you might have to start with sandpaper, but sticking a hand onto a spinning wheel seems like a bad idea. BTW, assuming you have the tires off, just cut the inside rubber of the stem with a razor blade and pull. Oh, and make sure if your going to polish the lips to clear coat. I didn't and even waxed, it hard to keep away corrosion.
