mine was terrible, local tire place made it worse! so, i went home, got my 6' level (to use as a straight edge) and put it against the front wheels with the other end pointing at the rear wheels. what you are looking for is a little toe-in, so you want the straight edge to be out from the back wheels a little (1/2"?). to be more accurate, you should put some sort of spacer on your straight edge so that it contacts the wheel edge not the tire-i didn't do this, and i don't think it makes much difference considering that i am not even sure how much it should really come out relative to the back wheels. anyway, make sure the steering wheel is straight before you start, and make sure that both wheels are the same angle (ie. if you go for 1/2", make sure they are both 1/2"). also, you want to be sure that both sides have the same amount of thread showing on the rods that connect to rod ends. i think this pretty much happens anyway if the wheel is straight, but if the steering wheel has ever been removed, it may have been put on in a different position, and you would need to correct that.
take it for a drive, then maybe try a slightly different amount of toe-in for different feel to the car. you cannot really change castor or camber yourself, it is just too slight a change that makes a big difference, and that is where a good shop will pay for itself.

remember-the cost of a less than perfect alignment is quick wearing tires, which would probably dislodge the savings of a diy pretty quick. i am waiting till i get back to scanwest to do a proper alignment, but for now, it drives straight, turns in nice, so i'm happy!. good luck
