Perplexing residual fuel pres- solved!

I have been driving an '89 900TC since late last year, after buying it and converting it to 5spd. The residual fuel pressure dropped off very quickly after shutting off the pump, the fuel economy was poor, and there were hot start problems (unless you left it overnight, it would act as if it was flooded and yet no fuel pressure until after several seconds of cranking, and when it finally did start there was a LOT of smoke). I replaced the check valve at the pump- no improvement. I squeezed off the fuel return line downstream of the FPR (per the Bentley manual), and the pressure still dropped. I pulled the new check valve back off, but it tested fine (would stop 40psi of air upstream, but no resistance downstream). Finally, I pulled the vaccuum hose off of the FPR as the pump was running, and fuel was coming out! This must have been allowing the fuel to leak into the manifold (whether after parking it or driving down the freeway), causing all the problems above. And sure enough, after replacing it, all of the above was fixed. Hope this helps someone else who is also keeping C900s alive.
