Does re-using starter make sense?

Hi. I've got a working starter in my 87 8 'valve. (Took me 3 tries to get one that worked when I put it in about 50K ag0...but that's another story.) I'm thinking of stripping the 87 of usable parts since I have a 91 with 160K miles that I'm keeping going. Are the starters compatible between the two cars? Any issue with wear from the starter teeth meshing with a particular flywheel and then getting used with another flywheel? I feel like the starter on the older car is just broken in nicely at this point, as it used to be noisy upon disengagement if I kept the key at "start" a fraction too long--probably because the flywheel on that old car has lots of wear. Anyway, is this a crazy idea? I just don't want to go through several of the rebuilt junky starters again to find one that works. Of course now that I think about it, the 91 is going to be much harder on a starter because those electronic injection systems take forever to crank up. The 87 always starts in a heart beat..
BTW: The 87 has 328K on it. Engine never opened, runs great. Tranny perfect (never rebuilt). Everything else on its last breath though because not worth keeping going due to New England rust issues. They don't make 'em like that anymore! (Except don't get me going about the brakes on that car...!)
