i think on townsends or similar there is a breakdown of box numbers and their final drive ratios. they also list which have bigger pinions, and which have the later (weaker) shift fork. if the box is original, i would guess it is a 456 10, and that is quite a short final drive, as i discovered (!). now, for me it is relatively easy to change it out in the future, so i didn't mind too much.
if it is a big deal to do this for you, consider looking for an ideal box (ending in 14, i think).
