Here's my experience- when I had a bad connection at the air mass meter in my '92 SC (with a later version of LH) the CEL would come on and the upshift light would blink. The connection was not at the connector, but on the circuit board on the AMM. Thank you, Injection Labs.
(The upshift light was integrated into the LH box in '89 with LH 2.4 so mine can say duuhhhhwhaaa? at me with it. Yours should not flash, IIRC the upshift light has a bunch of switches and sensors and the like.)
To test it, get the car running fine (CEL out) and just rock the connector and circuit board side to side a few times. Do the same thing to the (shudder) hall sensor connector, the NTC connector, the throttle switch connector, the oxygen sensor signal connector, the AIC motor connector, and even the connector on the charcoal canister purge valve.
The alternate test- when it is acting up, disconnect the above-mentioned sensors one at a time. If disconnecting the wire has an effect, the computer is obviously still doing something with it. If disconnecting one does nothing, it is time to test that component more thoroughly.
But definitely, first check the oxygen sensor signal to see what your engine is telling the computer to do.
Good luck! Just wait until you get it fixed.
