Shooting WD-40 back there is a good start. Then shoot some around the dowel plug, and ping the thing a few times with a ball peen hammer to loosen things up a bit. IIRC, there is about a 1/8 inch lip that fits into an indentation on the end of the crank. Mine came off easy - but of course I'd been prying on it the day before before I figured out how to separate the AT. I used a flat prybar, a "wonderbar" by name, but you might try a very long regular screwdriver - seems like you may have a bit of rust holding the thing together - loosen that up and it ought to come right off.
