it helps keep the rattles out of the sunroof! those little spring type devices they use on the roof mech are a pain, they fall out, then you get a rattle. just go ahead a glue that fabric onto the sunroof (front strip, rear strip, a little on the sides, keeping out of the mechanism). i used krazy glue, help up fine for 12 months now, with no signs of failure. the 'sew in' strips were destroyed on my old one, so i had to glue straight to the metal. just do the front, let it set up, then do the back, while keeping tight, trying to avoid tension creases, then do the sides (removing any tension creases you may have made from above process).
the nice thing about crazy glue is it soaks into the fabric/foam backing, and when you stick it down, it becomes thinner, so the bits on the side become less of a problem to the mech.
