I think you should leave the old B engine in the car for the sake of preserving the "authenticity" of the car. In the long run, I think it would be worth more with the original engine and interior. I'm guessing that if you sold the car to a collector they'd already have a 16v turbo in their driveway and would be looking for something different.

I have a CIS turbo, and a 16v non turbo. I really like that the cars have different engines. I also just bought a 1980 with 80k and a B engine. So I'll soon have all three engines. I have to be the poorest car "collector" in the world. Although I could just be a guy with a bunch of dead Saabs in the driveway :) The average price of these cars was about $200 each.

I'm actually getting a degree in historic preservation (of architecture). The rule of thumb is keep as much "historic fabric" as possible. I dunno if this applies to cars as well but I think it might. Keep us posted! I hope you keep it original, but other folks probably have a different opinion.
