ok, you're talking the short one in front of the door?- Posted by nicknick [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Does that mean..., PeterH, Mon, 21 Apr 2008 10:24:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
this is the worst one to do on the car, so be patient or you'll be posting a wanted ad!
THE WAY I DID IT (as opposed to other's opinions on the subject)
yes, you should go ahead and slide off the door panel. if it is a retrofit, as you state, then there will probably be just a couple of nuts/bolts along the bottom edge theat hold it tight to the door. or there will be rivets, depending on how thorough he was. in any case, seperate the bottome edge, then slide it backwards with door open.
now onto your front panel. remove any/all fixings-there should be a rubber 'plate' that secures it inside the arch at the bottom, and a small screw at the top, screwed in to the arch lip. at this point it is probably in your hands.
the trick is to (after closing the door) slide it forwards while gently holding that front arch piece outwards, away from the rail. you may have noticed how all the front panels have a slight indentation along the top face? thats because of this operation. warm it up with a hair-dryer if it is cold out. it is tricky, you have to push on the panel to keep the rails together, while you are also coming at an angle relative to the door. it does go!
good luck.
