Tired exhaust hangers? Mis-aligned exhaust?

Austin, most usual cause of this is your exhaust hitting your car's body. Grab the tailpipe and wiggle it around, if it strikes the car's underbody somewhere that's probably it.
On this '89 I'm driving I just finally tackled this last week and found the rubber hangers for the muffler and pipe are tired and soft rubber, and though it seems to be hung in the right position they let things move too far. I used a length of coathanger on one hanger to suck it up hard-tail as it were and that's cured things for now. I believe these are near-generic hangers and similar ones are available probly at most auto parts stores, but I'm lazy as well as on a tight budget right now.
Post an update.
